Jennifer Johnson

Assistant Director

I am incredibly honored to be a part of the administration team as MHA's assistant director.

I have an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a masters of education in Educational Administration. I was a classroom teacher, instructional coach and assistant principal at various Texas districts in the public school system.

After staying home with my 3 boys for a few years, it was time to get back to my roots and re-enter the educational field again... but this time in a unique hybrid setting. MHA has brought all of us so much joy and I'm thrilled to be entering into our 4th year as Leopards!

I am an enthusiast of nature and the outdoors. My family and I love to take trips camping and hiking as much as we can! I am an avid runner, and have participated in a few marathons and triathlons and hope to continue this in the future! We have been in Magnolia for 9 years, and  cherish being in the 'country' and experiencing new adventures... such as raising our 15 chickens!

I am a strong believer in a hands-on classroom model, and know that the partnership between parent and teacher can fuel a passion for learning through our unique learning opportunities at MHA. I cannot wait for you and your students to embark on the wonderful adventures we will have as a school and community this coming school year.

I am certified to teach K-6 grade and also have certifications in teaching ESL and GT students. I taught 3rd grade for four years, one year in Cy-Fair ISD, two years in Magnolia ISD, and one year at MHA. I taught Kindergarten during a pandemic in '20 - '21! That was definitely a challenge for sure but extremely rewarding at the same time!  I have also been a math interventionist for two years in Cy-Fair ISD.

My husband, Jake, and I have a handsom little boy named Oliver and were blessed with a beautiful baby girl in May, Olivia. They are both so perfect in every way! We have a very handsome but slightly insane puppy named Jax who is the best big brother!

You will find me doing one of two things! I am either with my amazing family laughing and making beautiful memories together or I am worshiping the my heart out. My husband and I were both worship leaders at our church. The Lord has blessed me with an amazing life and I can't think of a better way to thank him than to sing it out!

Natasha Fisher

Pre-K

Hi! I’m Natasha Fisher and excited to be returning for my 4th year at MHA. This will be my second year in a permanent classroom position for Pre-K. I so enjoyed floating all around the lower building last year loving  on all my littles. I can usually be found on the playground engaging in some kind of imaginative play, a truly happy place for me and such am important aspect of play for our students.

I am a native Houstonian and rabid Astros fan. After spending many fun and crazy years at home with my kiddos, I returned to the working world in Tomball ISD. A couple of God things happened and my family landed at Magnolia Heritage Academy. I have found my people as they say working and fellowshipping here.

I am looking forward to another great school year and being in the classroom to help our students grow through play based learning.

My name is Mary-Catherine Ivie, and I am humbled yet so thrilled for the opportunity to join Magnolia Heritage Academy as a 2nd grade math and science teacher!

I was born in Shreveport, Louisiana but grew up in the Cypress area. I graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and started teaching the following fall in Cy-Fair ISD. I have a wide variety of teaching experience in elementary including PK, 3rd grade, 5th grade, special education, and small group intervention. Our family loves all things outdoors, animals, road trips, camping, and family movie nights. It is our prayer that we raise kingdom minded servant leaders, who are rooted in Christ and bold in their faith. We are so excited for this new season at MHA! Tamalyn Hellums

3rd Grade ELAR/Social Studies

Would you believe coming to Magnolia Heritage Academy is a “God-thing”? He brought me to MHA last year, and I faithfully await each new school year with great expectancy!  I believe each of us are on a journey that is on purpose for a purpose.

I graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I’ve taught in Ohio, Michigan, Frisco and Magnolia, Texas. I homeschooled two of my three boys in Classical Conversations.  I have been married for 32 years to my best friend, Mark.  Together we have three boys and as of last year, we are official “empty nesters”.  Our oldest lives in San Antonio with his wife, our middle son will be graduating in December from Texas A&M, and our youngest is beginning his Plebe year at Army West Point in New York.

There are many ways to educate, but I know that the homeschool-private hybrid model is the ticket! I presently teach 3rd grade reading, writing, and social studies at MHA.  I love children, building relationships, and witnessing their growth and maturity as unique individuals of God.  It is a privilege that He has called me to lead, educate, and love His precious gift!

When I am not “working”, I love connecting with my boys and dear friends, studying God’s word, gardening, and nurturing my menagerie of animals.

MHA3rdMakeups-2.jpg

Caroline Wilson

3rd Grade Math and Science

My name is Caroline Wilson, and this will be my third year working at Magnolia Heritage Academy and my kids fourth year attending MHA. I’m so excited I will be teaching 3rd grade math and science and can’t wait to see old and new faces!

My husband and I have been married for 13 years, and we have 4 amazing children. We try to teach our kids the importance of faith, family, and good work ethics. Also, to find joy in the numerous gifts God gave us, and we never miss the opportunity to show them they are loved. My fur babies consist of two dogs, two guinea pigs, and three cats. With a revolving door of neighbor kids, our house is a constant beautiful disaster filled with laughter!

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a major in Psychology and minor in Sociology. After college, I found passion to help educate the next generation of youth to be the best possible version of themselves. I encourage kids to be curious because that curiosity will help them learn every day and will last a lifetime. The hybrid program offered at MHA has been such a blessing to our family, and homeschooling my kids has been the best decision after spending a few years in public school.

Outside of school, I teach piano from home and act as a glorified chauffer to my children. We never miss an opportunity to dance and sing, and I am working on turning my black thumb into a green thumb. Practice makes perfect!

Darcee Masden

I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2017 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Religious Studies.  I have been teaching for the past six years in a variety of positions. I recently got married and, although we do not have children yet,  my husband and I see the immense value of a home-to-school connection and desire to be involved in such a community.
I love to be outside, be creative, and experiment in the kitchen! In my eyes, life is made for good friends, great adventure, and yummy food!
I believe that Christ has a pivotal role in the classroom and a classroom is not complete without Him. I am excited to be a part of the Magnolia Heritage Academy team and to see God at work.

Theresa Harris

4th Self Contained

Hi, my name is Theresa Harris and I am so excited to be teaching

a 4th grade self contained class at MHA! This will be my 1st year

at MHA. I earned my BA in Elementary Education from the University of

South Alabama in Mobile, AL where I grew up. I taught

kindergarten and 4th grade there in my hometown right after

college. After I got married, my husband and I decided to make a

big move out here to Spring, TX. We have been in Texas for 20

years now and we love it! Last summer, we moved out here to

Magnolia and we love the “country” feel.

My husband and I have been married for 23 years and we have

been blessed with 3 awesome kids; Colin, Jacob, and Lorelei!

Colin is 12 and Jacob and Lorelei are 7 (twins). You can find us

most weekends at the ball park or soccer fields!

I have taught in Klein ISD for a total of 8 years, mostly in 4th

grade. I took about 10 years off from teaching to stay home with

my kids but last year I decided to head back into the classroom.

Over the past 2 years, I have been working with small groups in

ELA for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades in Klein ISD.

I believe each person has a special gift from God and I feel that

teaching is my gift. I enjoy working with kids and seeing them

learn and explore all the wonders of this world God has provided

for us. I am so excited to be a part of the MHA family and look

forward to the new journey ahead.

Elysa Evergreen

Jr High & HS History/ HS Biology

My name is Elysa Evergreen, or “mom” to our blended family of 5 kids (6 with our 14-year-old Goddaughter). I’m also a Biology Professor at San Jacinto College; Child Advocate with CASA for children in the foster care system; a wildlife rehabilitator for U.S. Fish & Wildlife (let me know if you’d like opossums or squirrels released on your property); travel enthusiast; occasional equestrian, and frequent taxicab driver (well, at least that’s how it feels, with all the kids’ activities).

I was born and raised in San Diego—with one foot in Mexico (where I learned fluent Spanish). Both my parents were in the medical field, and I was interested in Biology from a young age. I studied bonobos at the San Diego Zoo for my UCSD Masters’ Thesis. I also spent some time working as Biology professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany.

My daughters and I are so excited to join the amazing community of teachers and families at Magnolia Heritage Academy! I’m looking forward to being a part of this amazing group of educators and students! It is truly an honor, and I hope that I can motivate our students to really embrace biology and world history in new and inspiring ways!

She graduated from Houston Baptist University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with dual teaching certificates in Elementary Education and Special Education.

She has been teaching for 13 years in both private and public schools in the area. She began her career teaching 1st, and 2nd grade then moved to 3rd grade. Most recently, she spent time in a Life Skills classroom.  Her favorite thing about teaching is witnessing the pride in her students when they conquer a difficult subject.

Haley lives in Woodforest, TX with her husband, three kids, and their pup. She has a large extended family who love to travel together.  Her favorite hobbies include reading, sewing, and volunteering as a leader in her church Women’s Ministry.

Cindy Waitz

6th/9th Math & 7th History

Hello, my name is Cindy Waitz and I am excited to join MHA as a teacher after 2 years of being “just” a parent. I was born in Louisiana, but moved with my family and went to high school in Montgomery, TX. I then graduated Magna Cum Laude from SHSU with my bachelor’s degree in education and a minor in math. I taught for a whole year at Sacred Heart School in Conroe as the junior high math teacher before having our third child and accepting the call to return home to my career as Mom.

While I have been home, I haven’t given up my passion to share what I love with others. I was a religious education teacher for 18 years at our church before stepping down to pursue other callings. I taught many subjects for eight years in a homeschool co-op setting, from math to biology to jr. master gardener, robotics, p.e., and beyond. I am a 4-H parent and club co-manager in Grimes county. There, I am a certified shooting sports instructor and outdoor education leader. I’ve lead projects with rabbits, chickens, goats, clothing and textiles, food and nutrition, jr. master gardener (gardening is my other passion!) and more. I currently teach hot yoga in Conroe and am a member of a non-profit board in Plantersville which raises money for local scholarships and maintains our historic building, Plantersville Town Hall. I also have a few other side-gigs, as I can't seem to figure out how to sit still!

Personally, I have been married to my wonderful husband, Karl, since 1999. We have four amazing kiddos, though two are now technically adults. Of my two who are still at home with us, Simon & Isaac will be returning to MHA.

We are so excited to be even more of a part of the MHA family and are looking forward to what the year will bring!

My family are also active members in our local church parish, where we enjoy serving our community. Teaching youth in catechism the last 10 years has been an enriching and rewarding opportunity for me to work with children of all ages and to share my passion for God's ministry.

My educational background includes an Associates Degree in Science from Lone Star College. In addition, I graduated Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University with a BA in English and a minor in History. My passion is American literature and teaching essay composition, but I have also enjoyed teaching World Literature and formal grammar. When I'm not in a classroom, my family loves the outdoors! I enjoy road tripping, hiking, kayaking, gardening, and curling up with a book in the front porch rocking chair. Michelle Reams

Jr High Science

Hello!  My name is Michelle Reams.  I am blessed to join Magnolia Heritage Academy as the 6th-8th grade Science teacher.  I retired from public education in May after 30 years as a teacher, a Reading Specialist, and a Special Education Coach.  I am originally from Ohio, but I consider myself a Texan because I have lived in Texas for more years than I lived in Ohio.  I graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor’s in Special Education, from the University of Houston with a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading and from Lamar University with a Masters in Educational Leadership.

I started my career in Cypress Fairbanks ISD as a resource teacher.  I went back to school to get my masters and then became a lead Title 1 teacher.  After 15 years in Cy-Fair, I transferred to Tomball for 10 years where I worked as an Instructional Reading Specialist and 3rd grade teacher.  I came back to Cy-Fair to work as an Elementary Coach in the special education department until my retirement.

Learning is a lifelong process for me.  As I begin this new chapter I hold close to my favorite Bible verse.   “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

I am excited to teach science and committed to provide lessons, opportunities, and rich-experiences where we can all learn from each other by supporting and encouraging success.  I believe in using an inquiry-based approach to teach science through the 5E Model ( Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) encouraging students to explore, construct understanding of scientific concepts, and relate those understandings to their lives.

My family has lived in Magnolia for 16 years.  I have been married to my husband, Michael, for 21 years.  We have a 20 year-old daughter, Katie, who graduated from Magnolia West High School.  In my free time I love to travel, read and shop.

Jennifer Griffith

Reading Intervention Specialist

I am happy to be returning to MHA  this fall! A bit about me... I have a BS in Business from Trinity University and spent the beginning of my career in the hospitality industry in San Antonio. I have been married to Dave for 34 years and we have 4 wonderful grown kids! After deciding to leave the corporate world and stay home with my kids, I delved into the world of homeschooling, and spent 15 years homeschooling in San Antonio, including one son with dyslexia. When we moved to Iowa in 2012 for Dave to pursue a doctorate, I put the last 2 kids in school and went back to work as a Guidance Counselor and Director of International Students at the Christian High School where my kids attended.
In 2016, we moved to Magnolia to be closer to our parents, our college-aged kids and our extended family. With the knowledge I had gained from tutoring my own dyslexic son, I began privately tutoring dyslexic students, and I love to see these struggling readers gain confidence and succeed. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach for dyslexia, which I use in addition to other methods to help the struggling readers at MHA.   I am excited about starting my 4th year at MHA and for the possibilities that lie ahead!

Kimberly Kaley

Art Lower Grades

I am so thrilled to join Magnolia Heritage Academy as the elementary art teacher.  I have always had a passion for art.  I used to watch my mom paint when I was a little girl and she inspired me to be the person and artist I am today.

I am a self-taught artist that would paint when I had down time, but my job usually kept me busy.  When I became a stay-at-home mom, I began painting and creating again.  I homeschooled 3 of my children for 9 years.  During that time, I was painting wall murals, woodworking and started my journey with watercolor.  I fell in love with the medium and turned my hobby into a career.  Most of my commissions are pet portraits which is great because I really enjoy painting animals.

I was born and raised in Morgan City, Louisiana and moved to North Houston 28 years ago.  My family and I moved to Magnolia 8 years ago.  We love living in the country where we get to watch the deer walk the neighborhood.  I have been married to my husband, David, for 15 years and we have 4 children.  The oldest is grown and my younger three were homeschooled until they attended MHA last year.  We also have two dogs, chickens, a guinea pig and a fish.  I am a child of God and He is my strength.  I am a recent breast cancer survivor thankful for every day.  In my spare time I love being in the water and going to the beach.  I also enjoy fishing, bike riding and playing board/ card games.

My goal is to inspire a lifelong love of art in my students.  I am looking forward to a fun and colorful year!

Terri Burton

Art Upper Grades

Hi my name is Terri Burton, I have had a lifelong passion for the fine arts and a love for travel. I graduated from the University of Houston in Clear Lake with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education also with a Minor in Social Psychology. I began teaching for public schools in the Houston area at 27, and developed a passion for helping students not only to cultivate their artistic talents but to challenge their minds to think at a higher caliber and maneuver the world of art in a fun and relaxing manner.

Throughout my career I have been blessed to teach my students that art is not about what the product looks like but instead about the feeling, the spirit, the unlocking of a door to totally different types of art. I retired after 28 years in education as Department Chair of a Fine Art Magnet Program which I developed in Houston ISD. I continued teaching art classes to adults and youth outside of educational settings.

Almost two years ago I was invited to partake in teaching at MHA. I have found that I love the environment that allows the artistic mind to develop. What my students learn will bolster their confidence in highschool and college hands-on projects. I cannot wait to meet your kiddos.

Erin Maurer has worked in higher education for over 20 years where she has held leadership positions overseeing academic advising, writing support, and disability support. Beyond her work in higher education, Erin homeschools both of her daughters, one in elementary and in high school. Both girls were students in Magnolia Heritage Academy for five years until the family moved from the area.
